Day 80-Tantalizing BBQ, new Sunday dress, and motivation for shedding pounds

Today we had lunch catered into the station. My very favorite meal of BBQ. The smell of hickory smoked meat really gets the senses stirring. There is something comforting about meat that has slowly cooked over an open-pit for hours. Oh and don’t forget the white sauce! Even as I type this blog I am listening to some of my co-workers who either are not from the south or simply don’t know about white sauce. Really??? I thought everybody knew about it! I’m not crazy about the bottled white sauce. I like the homemade kind. I make mine slightly more tangy as I don’t care for a lot of mayo. I also add Cajun seasoning and red pepper to give it a kick! You can still eat BBQ and white sauce while counting calories…just make sure you check the portion size. If you make the white sauce at home, use low-fat or fat-free mayo.

I took a few bites of my lunch and I’m full. One positive thing about dieting is the fact that it has made my stomach shrink. I can’t eat but a little and I’m full as a tick! Pre-diet I could stuff down a plate of meat, potato salad, cole slaw and wash it down with a big swig of white sauce! ha! Did I mention they also brought in banana pudding? I didn’t eat any of that. I did, however, have a glass of sweet tea. That was better to me than anything! 1 cup and that’s all. Took care of my tea craving and gave me some diet enjoyment 🙂

I was talking to my mom last night about my weight loss. I can tell she is really proud of me for taking the initiative to do this. I started out with the goal of losing weight for my upcoming high school reunion but as it turns out I think I wanted to do it more for me. I had gained weight out of depression. I let myself go and I knew how it was affecting my health, my personality, my outlook on life. My attitude was in the bottom of the landfill. It is amazing what dropping weight will do to a girl’s self-esteem. I work harder to look nicer, I feel better about myself and I don’t feel as down on the world as I did about 25 pounds ago. Will I keep this lifestyle going even past my weight goal? Yes. I really have no choice because of my sugar problem and cholesterol. I feel like I’m in my 20’s again–except for the aching groin muscle and sore knee 🙂 I have energy to burn and I like the way I look in smaller clothes.

I took this pic on Sunday. I bought this dress last year, knowing it was a much smaller size than what I was wearing. I couldn’t even pull it over my knees. Sorry for the strange camera shot in the pic. I should have had someone take it but I wanted you get to see that a little hard work pays off 🙂


I’ve posted on here before about 2 apps for calorie counting. I’ve tried both the “Lose It” app and the “MyFitnessPal” app. Both are great! Since I started with the “Lose It” app that is the main one I enter my information into. So if you are on MyFitnessPal with me and see that I don’t enter calories/exercise often it’s because I rely on the “Lose It” app. It has all my information stored from day 1 and I like the progress chart better. If you haven’t found an app to use yet to calculate calories go to your app store on your smart phone and find one that works for you.

    I need help
    Can’t seem to get motivated. Lost over 70 lbs in 91 was in prevention magazine and now only need to lose 13 and can’t. Crave chocolate all the time.

    • Barbara-
      I’d lay off the chocolate. Find a new craving perhaps? Maybe a piece of fruit or a sugar free treat. Don’t give up, but don’t give in either.

        Sugar Free Jello with a little whipping cream (whipping cream low in calories and only 1 carb) that has helped me to conqur the sweet cravings and I have now lost 43 lbs. Good luck to you both.

    • Barbara, I have found 100% all natural snacks, gluten free, dairy free, soy free, 0g trans fat, no cholesterol, kosher & vegan friendly. You can onlt get them through brand partners, not sold in stores but they are going to change how families snack!

    I am in Week 2 of diet/exercise. I’ve already lost 4.5 lbs. I was wondering what your daily calorie intake is and what you do for exercise?

    • Laura,
      I keep my calories around 1300-1500. If I add in a day of working out or walking I add in some carbs to give me energy. I also eat a snack 30 minutes after to keep me from waking up hungry during the night. On the days I skip exercise, I stick with high protein. I allow myself a cheat meal once a week and I don’t drink sodas or eat sweets.

    You look GREAT!!! AWESOME job of loosing the weight!! I am trying so hard!! I had lost 14 but gained 3 back… ugh…hoping it will come back off along with the other 50 that needs to follow!!
